Get to know Southern Pain & Neurological’s Dr. Richardson

Dr. Donald E. Richardson - Southern Pain & NeurologicalThere are so many components that go into making a successful clinic. There's, of course, the caliber of physicians on staff. There's the team's innate passion for helping others who are in pain. And there's the desire to go above and beyond one's obligations to make the team better.

All of these qualities are what make Dr. Donald E. Richardson such an integral part of our team.

And to no surprise, Dr. Richardson's roots run deep in Louisiana. He received his M.D., and completed his Neurosurgical Residency at Tulane. He stayed on with Tulane as a professor for the School of Medicine before going into practice. Over the years, Dr. Richardson's journey has taken him throughout the region, including as Clinical Associate Professor at the LSU School of Medicine-Neurosurgery, and as Director of the Hotel Dieu Hospital Pain Treatment Center.

We, of course, are honored that he chose to join our team in 2010.

Dr. Richardson's passion for his career, and lifelong love of learning, are what fueled him to become a pioneer in the field of brain stimulation for the treatment of chronic pain.

Brain stimulation treatment is one of the services we provide in our three clinics around New Orleans, and provides our patients with the long-term relief they've been searching for - and deserve.

Dr. Richardson remains active in bettering the field of pain care through functional neurosurgical techniques. He belongs to the American College of Surgeons, American Pain Society, American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, and the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Association for Academic Surgery, International Association for the Study of Pain, the International Neurosurgical Society, Research Society of Neurological Surgeons, Royal Society of Medicine in London, and the European Society for Functional Neurosurgery.

He is among the most revered specialists in this field, and has 55 publications in the general literature.

These career accomplishments are, of course, astounding. But to this patients, Dr. Richardson is the caring, patient healer who has given them a second chance at a life without daily pain.

Southern Pain & Neurological is a better place because of Dr. Richardson.
